Status and common errors in sending Whatsapp messages

  • Whatsapp messages are a service managed by Meta, therefore there are occasions when the sending of these types of messages can fail.
  • Some of the most common errors can be found directly in the status of your Whatsapp campaigns under Sent Messages.

In this tab you can filter the Whatsapp campaigns that are sent to your guest, by Status:

When a message is sent it will fall under the following categories:

  • Accepted: The message has been scheduled and is using a messaging service.
  • Cancelled: The message that was supposed to be sent has been cancelled.
  • Delivered: The message has been delivered successfully (user might not yet have opened it, exemplified on Whatsapp by two grey ticks in the message).
  • Failed: The message has not been sent successfully. (see possible reasons below
  • Queued: The message has not been accepted (because it is not using a messaging service) or has been accepted and is waiting to be sent
  • Read: For WhatsApp only: the recipient has opened the message (read receipts must be enabled).
  • Scheduled: The message is scheduled to be sent at a later time.
  • Sent: The message has been sent successfully. (Exemplified on Whatsapp by a single grey tick in the message)
  • Undelivered: The message has not been delivered. (See possible reasons below)

There are several reasons why a message can be in the status “Failed” or “Undelivered”:

The most common reasons for these statuses are:

Invalid message recipient:  - Invalid recipient for the WhatsApp sender. This is the most common error for why a Whatsapp message failed to deliver. This is  due to the recipient being an invalid user on WhatsApp or other Meta restrictions for WhatsApp. This means that:

  • The recipient phone number is not a WhatsApp enabled phone number.
  • The recipient has not accepted WhatsApp's Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.
  • The recipient is using an old, unsupported version of the WhatsApp client for their phone.

WhatsApp Message Not Allowed by Recipient: Message blocked by WhatsApp because the user has opted out of receiving messages from your business. This error occurs when the recipient has either blocked your number or opted out of receiving messages from your specific business on WhatsApp.

The message format is invalid or the message Template mismatch:  Template does not match the approved template. This error occurs when the content of a message sent using a WhatsApp template does not exactly match the format of the pre-approved template. Possible causes include differences in variables, unsupported characters, or modifications that make the template unrecognisable.

In order to avoid any message failures it is recommended that the contact information is correctly filled in the reservation.
